PTA

WELCOME TO THE PTA PAGE

We would like to take this opportunity to let our new families know what the PTA committee does.

We are a group of parents who help the school raise money. This can be for special projects or other basic school needs. Fundraising ideas are discussed and some of them are organized to fruition. Events are planned around school activities each term and we try to work smart not hard. We organize Calf Club each year and Gala Day bi-annually with help from the Friends of PTA and other parents and community members. We try to utilize the strengths and contacts that we each have so that we make a strong team. We have ongoing dialogue and a good working relationship with Mr Gordon and the BOT so that we can all work to meet the needs of the school.

Our meetings are advertised in the school newsletter and we alternate after school meetings and evening meetings, once a month in the staffroom. We meet for about an hour and half and do our best to keep things quick and efficient!  We are all parents and time is precious. We love to see new people join us so please feel free to pop along to a meeting.

If being on the committee is not for you, then we have a fantastic group of parents called the “Friends of the PTA” who are there to assist with PTA events. We communicate via email and if you can help with something when the call goes out, then that’s great. Many hands make light work!

WHERE DOES THE PTA FUNDRAISING MONEY GO?

Over the last year, (Jan 2010 - Feb 2011), the PTA with the support and generosity of parents and the wider community, has raised $25943.00. This is from big events such as Calf Club and Gala Day and smaller ones such as last year’s Cookie Fundraiser, discos, raffles, the Christmas Tree sale, sausage sizzles and mufti days.

The majority of the money raised has been given back to the school for various resources and projects such as the building of the new junior playground, small whiteboards for each classroom, junior readers, school trips and Yr 6 leaving activities. The current project continues to be the updating of the school playgrounds.

While we would love to say that there is lots of money from the Ministry of Education to support our school and that our role is no longer needed, unfortunately this is not the case. PTA fundraising is an essential element of a high decile school such as Patumahoe. Without such funds some activities or resources would not be available to the school, staff or children. Costs for parents, such as school trips, outings, guest appearances and workshops, would be higher if it were not for subsidised funding from the PTA.

Well done and thank you to everybody for getting behind our school; supporting fundraisers to date, volunteering your time and for giving those hard earned dollars. Please continue to do so as we get going with 2011. The PTA Committee values your support.

WHAT’S COMING UP…

NEW FAMILIES AFTERNOON TEA

Some years ago, the PTA ran this regularly, however the idea ran out of steam! So at the request of the school we have started this gathering again, once a term, usually to coincide with our NE class assembly. Look out for the afternoon tea advertised in the school newsletter once a term. New families are formally invited but anyone can pop in for a catch up and meet our new families too.

CALF CLUB

The date has been set for Saturday 24 September, keeping it at the same time as we have had in previous years. Other schools are having theirs at the end of the term so it was decided to avoid a clash. As you may be aware, the school terms run differently this year due to the Rugby World Cup. This means that our Calf Club will be happening 2 weeks before the end of the term. Calf Club is classed as a school day and all children are required to enter in some form.

LISA O'NEILL 'WHAT NOT TO WEAR' SHOW THANK YOU

A huge thank you to the school community for your great support for the Lisa O'Neill show.  We had an awesome crew of helpers both before and on the night and your efforts are hugely appreciated.  While the final numbers are still being tallied, early reports look like we may have cracked the $5000 profit mark!  A great fundraiser and a boost towards the upgrade of the senior school playgroud. Those of you who attended the show, thank you for coming along.  We know everyone throughily enjoyed themselves, it was evident in the constant laughter on the night!
(and the hugely positive feedback we received afterwards).
